ICRISAT recruits@ BT2020- Genomics / Bio-info jobs for PhD's /MSc's


Dr. Rajeev Varshney, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad, would like to recruit @ BT2020- invites applications for the following positions to be based at its Headquarters at Patancheru, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India for the special projects funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), USA and Generation Challenge Programme (GCP), Mexico which are time bound.


1)Post:
Scientist - Post-Doctoral (Genomics)


Number of position:
One


Requirements:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/ Plant Genomics/ Agricultural Biotechnology/ Plant Biotechnology/ Life sciences with the knowledge indicated in responsibilities and good exposure to statistical genomics/quantitative genetics.


Responsibilities:
Study nitrogen fixation in legumes at physiology as well as molecular level, marker genotyping, genetic mapping, QTL analysis, sequencing and gene expression analysis, supervise laboratory and field activities, actively associate in writing project reports and research articles, supervision of students and technicians and perform other related jobs from time to time.


Nature and duration:
This position is an international position as a part of the NSF-BREAD project entitled “Overcoming the domestication for symbiotic nitrogen fixation in legumes”. The incumbent will be working in close collaboration with University of California, Davis, USA (Professor Doug Cook). The position is tenure-based and available only for three years.



2)Post:
Scientist – Post-Doctoral (Bioinformatics)


Number of position:
One


Requirements:
Ph.D. (or M.Sc./M Tech with research experience)- in Bioinformatics or Life Sciences with the practical knowledge of bio-informatics.


Responsibilities:
Optimization of tools and development of pipelines for analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) data, perl scripting, develop bioinformatic tools/ databases for sequence and gene expression analysis, actively associate in writing project reports and research articles, supervision of students and perform other related jobs from time to time. Knowledge in Java programming and database design is added advantage.


Nature and duration:
This position is a nationally recruited position under GCP sponsored project on NGS data analysis tools and pipeline (pl visit: http://www.icrisat.org/bt-publicdomain-ngs.htm). The incumbent will be working in close collaboration with Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI), UK (Dr David Marshall) and National Centre for Genome Research (NCGR), USA (Dr Greg May). This position is available only for Indian nationals for a period of one year initially, however extend-able based on performance and need.
