Centre for Infectious Diseases and Control (CIDC), School of Bio Sciences and Technology ,VIT University, Vellore invites applications for the following program.
Program:
Training Programme on An Expedition to Bacterial Genome Islands.
Event dates:
21-22 September 2012
About the Training :
Genome islands are DNA regions that can translocate and integrate from donor to recipient bacteria during intra and inter species conjugation. Many of the genome islands harbor sets of virulence genes and hence referred to as pathogenicity islands (PIs).
Acquired virulence in bacteria is mostly due to the horizontal transfer of pathogenicity islands. With increase in the amount of DNA sequence data, it has become increasingly important to analyze and understand the bacterial virulence at genome level.
The program is organized with an idea to impart training on the tools and techniques of bacterial genome island identification and analysis, to a variety of nationwide researchers who are actively involved in molecular microbiological research.
Programme Plan:
- Induced mating assay of selected bacterial strains
- Sequence analysis of genome islands, in silico characterization and interpretation
- Wet lab analysis of genome islands / genome island genes.
Eligibility:
Masters students, Research scholars and Faculty members from all branches of life sciences can apply.
