BACKGROUND:
A Ph.D. studentship is available in the Laboratory of Post-transcriptional Control and Bioinformatics (lapti.ucc.ie), at the Department of Biochemistry, University College Cork (UCC ) to work on a project related to detection and prediction of RNA editing in humans. The project is supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI ). The work will involve computational analysis of biological sequences from major public databases. An opportunity to engage in wet lab experimental work will be available.
REQUIREMENTS:
An ideal candidate will have a degree in Bioinformatics, or related disciplines and willingness to work on Biological problems. Candidates with degrees in Biological sciences such as Genetics, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry will also be considered, but these candidates will need to demonstrate evidence of strong background in mathematics and statistics and possess basic programming skills. An applicant should have a good command of English language.
The successful applicant is expected to be enrolled in UCC's PhD programme and therefore is subject to academic approval (see UCC-PhD for details, please pay particular attention to English test requirements).
