Vacancy:
One Junior Research Fellow, to work with Amit Misra et al in the Pharmaceutics Division.

Research Area:
Modulation of innate immune responses of macrophages infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in the First class, in any of the Biological Sciences, with the course content having included Biochemistry and Immunology.
The candidate should also have obtained a First class in the Bachelor’s degree and in the School leaving examinations.
Only those candidates who have their own funding for fellowship (CSIR / UGC / DBT/ ICMR –JRF) need apply.

Project Description:
M. tuberculosis induces ‘alternate activation’ of macrophages. We wish to explore drugs and drug delivery strategies that rescue the infected macrophage from this phenotype and induce ‘classical’, bactericidal activation. The Fellow will be expected to undertake studies on the activation status of macrophages, by analysis of transcription profiles; protein expression and bioactivity profiles; and key events in cell biology such as phagosome-lysosome fusion and apoptosis.

VIT University :Summer training on Chromatography and Molecular Biology techniques

A short-term practical training programme will be conducted at SBCBE, VIT University, Vellore on "Chromatography and Molecular Biology techniques".

The program covers the following techniques:
Chromatographic techniques
• Paper chromatography
• Thin layer chromatography
• Conventional column chromatography
• High pressure liquid chromatography
• Gas chromatography

Molecular biology techniques
• Isolation of Nucleic acids (plasmid DNA,
genomic DNA, RNA)
• Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
• Electrophoresis of Nucleic acids (plasmid DNA,
genomic DNA, RNA and PCR products)
• Cloning
• Southern Blotting
• Electrophoresis of proteins
• 2D electrophoresis of proteins
• Western Blotting
• Training in Software used for molecular weight
determination, primer designing, map making
etc.
